Okay, so I’m reading Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” series, and I’m on Book IV, Wizard and Glass. And I’m assuming it’s a minor question, but it’s still driving me insane:
Spoilers coming up…
Okay, spoiler (so it doesn’t do “mouse over”)
Why is the fact that the ranches have MORE animals than they are supposed to such a big deal?
If anyone could answer this, I’d appreciate it!
Also, does one have to read the comics as well, or are they just in addition to the series? (In other words, are the essential to the series?)
It’s been a long time since I read it, but if I recall correctly, Roland and the others were sent to Mejis to keep Roland away from Marten, but their excuse for sending them was to catalog the resources available for the Affiliation. Hiding the animals was an indication that many of the people of Mejis were secretly supporting John Farson and planning to contribute resources to his cause.
The comics came after the final book, and they’re just extra.
The Comics (if you mean the new ones by Marvel) I believe are just the stories told in chronological order rather than the order of the series itself. So it starts off with Wizard and Glass rather the “The Gunslinger”. So I suppose if you haven’t read the series at all, the Comics would explain to you what happened in book 4, but it doesn’t really spoiler you to too much other than that sort of thing (but I’ve only read the first two volumes of comics).
And yeah as above- the fact that they have MORE animals but aren’t reporting them is because they’re smuggling them out to the enemy pretty much. Because if they had all the horses, they’d mention them all and get credit for it. But by under-reporting the animals, they’re basically taking the surplus ones and giving them to the enemy.
Ah, thanks. Yes, as I got farther into the book, I started to get what was happening. :smack: Sometimes it’s hard to keep everyone straight in this one.
I’ll refrain from asking anymore questions – at least for now, as I don’t want to spoil myself.
