No it’s not about the board but this seems the best place to put it.
Anyway, so in the old layout all the columns were layed out chronologically and you could browse them. Now, and I may be missing the forest for the trees, I can only see ways to browse the most recent additions/chosen classic, or view a random column. Or, search, if I know what I’m looking for. If I just want to browse, how do I do that?
another question I’ll just throw in here - I’ve tried following a few column links from threads in Comments and Mailbag forums, and they don’t work. Are they all dead now that the structure has changed?
I don’t think the structure of the SDMB has changed but we temporarily have been running this message board as boardstest.straightdope.com instead of boards.straightdope.com. The DNS request to rename this new web server boards.straightdope.com went through yesterday and has had about 24 hours to propagate throughout the Internet. I’ve now changed this new server to be known as boards.straightdope.com and more importantly the vBulletin software to know this place as boards.straighdope.com. The linkages on the www.straightdope.com should be working again if not now then very soon once the DNS change has fully propagated.

The columns and the archive pages are a separate issue and are currently being addressed by another team. It’s a coincidence everything happened at once here.
Problems on the content side are being ironed out and you should be able to see more and more content every day. We ask for your patience while everything settles out.
Ok no prob. I also wanted to say that the new site looks quite nice. The old one was looking very dated, although I liked the simplicity of it. This new look seems to retain the simplicity while looking a lot more elegant all round.
I think you will find by into next week that more and more of the archives will be available to you – and easier to find with the new search engine as well. As I’ve been updating the front page I’ve found quite a bit of elegance with the new system and I look forward to the web guys getting this all tweaked out for us. They’ve come a long way in a short time.
