Question about the USS Pueblo

The US Navy still keeps the USS Pueblo (AGER-2) in commission following its capture by the North Koreans in 1968. It is my understanding that a ship in commission has a Captain.

While it may be entirely ceremonial, who is the current Captain of the Pueblo, and who have the Captains been since Cmdr. Lloyd M. Bucher in 1968?

Is this site of any use?

There are several tags which are greyed out–home port, maint cycle, etc. They’re simply N/A, just like the skipper. I believe it’s only considered a commissioned ship due to politics, so I’m guessing Big Navy has long since forgotten about her (and rightly so).

Pueblo isn’t in commission. It’s included in the Naval Vessel Register, meaning it’s owned by the USN, but it’s not comissioned. I should not that while the NVR has the ship listed as “Active, in Comission” here at OPNAV, it’s not listed as comissioned.

And that, I think, settles that.

Got to love the Dope.

FWIW, Pueblo is still afloat as a museum in North Korea.
