Just a quick one - it’s about hair growth. There’s the classic scene where Eric gets blood in his hair and Pam’s pissed off because she"ll have to go “much shorter” than planned. I know Vampires don’t age and various injuries heal and body parts grow back … but what about their hair ? Is Eric’s hair doomed to be this length forever ?
Do they need to shave ? Surely a lot of the male vampires would have been bearded when they were turned ? Once they shave does the hair not grow back ?
I don’t know what Harris’ vampires are like but Kim Newman mentions this issue in his vampire novels. A vampire’s appearance stays they way they looked when they died. That includes their hair. So if it’s cut off it grows back to the point where it was when the vampire died. The only exception is if their hair is cut by silver - then it stays cut forever.
And there is no definitive answer to the hair question. In all ten books Eric’s hair is described as long (oh, and Sam’s strawberry blond!) and there’s never a mention of if it can be cut, will it grow back etc, nor is there anything on the show to suggest that his hair can’t grow back - I don’t think Pam’s complaint was in that vein so much as bitching that it’s not what she planned. In my humble opinion it’s unreasonable to assume that it’d never grow back, or all the vampires would be bald after a few centuries of wear and tear.
