Question for artists (of any art or genre)

I do what can loosely be called paintings. My favorite painter is Klimt, yet his influence on me is extremely minimal, and is limited to some of the abstract shapes in his work, not the actual subject matter or technique. I’d be doing the same kind of work if I’d never seen any of his.

So in your case, has your favorite artist influenced your work at all? (I assume this would be more the case with musicians.)

Jeff Beck is the guitarist I admire most, but his technique and phrasing are way beyond my capabilities - but they are way beyond pretty much any other guitarist’s capabilities, so I don’t feel so bad. :wink: Occasionally I hear something in my playing that is Beck-ish, but it is more wishful thinking than anything…
