Question for Coldfire

Hi Coldfire,

I’m just back from 7 days in Amsterdam - seeing in the new year in style.

While there we were in a coffee shop watching Dutch television. There was a show about 3 lads Ruud, Willem and Bart. At first we thought they were a rock group or some returning heroes from afar due to all the celebrations. The volume on the TV was turned off in favour of some dance music not that it would make much difference as neither of us speak Dutch.

From what we could make out they had spent some time locked away from the outside world in a house full of secret cameras. Which we guess was a fly on the wall television show.

Do you know who or what the 3 guys are, was it a show of some kind or am I off the mark altogther?.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Bobinelli,

I hope you enjoyed Amsterdam !
The show is called Big Brother. It ended last week, and it lasted for some 100 days. The premises is what you described, and the title suggests: cameras follow the lives of a bunch of people and we all get to watch. Initially, 10 people were shut off from the outside world. No TV, no newspapers, nothing. Every week or so, the inhabitants nominated people to be voted out. The Dutch public could then phone in and vote. Ruub, Willem and Bart were the final three guys left. There was a final vote, Bart won, and got the Grand Prize of 250,000 Dutch Guilders. Now, I don’t have to tell YOU how many beers that sort of money buys in Amsterdam

Cheers for the reply Coldfire.

I did indeed enjoy Amsterdam - this was my third visit - though it’s even colder than Dublin in winter!.

Thanks,

Bob
