Question For Lazy Channel-Changers

It used to be a recurring theme in sitcoms, with King of Queens, Still Standing, According to Jim, to a lesser extent Everybody Loves Raymond, and that’s just the successful long-running shows. I’ll bet there were any number of failed attempts. (And I know the networks pitched one to Artie Lange, but he opted to stay on the radio instead.)

TV has since moved on from this tired trope. The closest you’ll find in a more modern sitcom is Rules of Engagement, where both of the husbands are physically fit and I’m assuming attractive. (Is the guy who played David Puddy from Seinfeld attractive?) Either way, the husbands clearly married within their “league,” which is the defining characeristic of the Fat Guy Hot Wife trope: How did this fat (or ugly) guy get such a hot wife?

I hadn’t considered the Fox cartoons since I don’t generally consider them sitcoms, and I find it interesting that they mostly adhere to the trope. Makes them seem even more passe and out of touch than I normally think of them.
