We’re going to be in London in a few weeks, and I thought it would be fun to see a football match while we’re there. I don’t particularly care what team we see, and didn’t even necessarily care that it be Premier League, but it does appear that at the moment I can get a pair of tickets in the neutral area for the upcoming Fulham-Sunderland match.
Anything I should be concerned about, or any advice for match day?
By way of a mini-bump, I offer this link, which covers all the basics about Fulham’s ground and surroundings etc. from a fan perspective
Craven Cottage still has a bit of character about it - not one of the new and soulless stadiums that are increasingly prevalent in the EPL. The only problem I can see is that it will be an end-of-season fixture, with both teams comfortably mid-table, with nothing much to play for.
It’s extremely likely that West Ham United will have a playoff match for promotion to the Premier League in the next few weeks (the date isn’t set yet, but I’m guessing maybe May 5/6 or 8/9). I think Upton Park would be a great place to see a match. Good fans, history, not a sterile/corporate-friendly stadium, and fairly easy access to the train/tube. Add in the benefit of 2 clubs fighting for the potential of £10s of millions, and the atmosphere ought to be great.
That’s great Baron! I was perusing the Friends of Fulham website for noob info, but nobody had linked to that. And I don’t mind a low-key game, though I’d like to see Clint Dempsey play…not too likely, but you never know.
That was. The most. Fun. Ever. We were down at the end where Fulham scored twice, including a sweet Dempsey goal. It was a bit awkward as we were in the away/neutral section, but whatever. And after a lifetime of watching NFL and MLB games in massive stadiums, Craven Cottage felt really intimate, particularly with the Sunderlanders singing at the tops of their lungs and stomping their feet so hard that the stands seemed to shake.
