Question for Those Who Listened to BIGL in the '70s

When I lived in England in 1976–77, I used to fall asleep at night listening to Radio Luxembourg. Every night before signoff, they would play what I assume was the Luxembourg national anthem (a very inspirational tune) and a piece of pop music I would swear was by Gladys Knight and the Pips (but probably wasn’t). I’ve tried to find this song on line, but have never been successful.

The lyrics, insofar as I remember them, went

The world is a [something] of [something, something] people,
Think of the pain of those long, lonely years…

That’s all I remember, though I can hum the melody all the way through to the end. Does anybody else out there know what I’m talking about? Can you identify the song and/or the group? Or did I dream the whole thing?

It appears to be “Maybe the Morning” by Sunny Leslie.

That’s it! Thank you so much!

Just to be totally nitpicky, Big L was the pirate Radio London (1964 - 1967).
