This one’s mainly for the older Dopers. Do you, every once in a while, find yourself thinking of some song that you’ve forgotten about for decades? This happened to me today. I suddenly, out of nowhere, remembered the 1971 song “Double Barrel” by Dave & Ansell Collins. This song is probably better remembered by those in the UK, where I believe it went to #1, but it stalled just outside the Top 20 in the US. It was mostly instrumental but every once in a while either Dave or Ansell would interject, “I… am The Magnificent!! W-O-O-O.” That is, he didn’t say “wooo”, but said the letters “W, O, O, O”. Anybody remember that? Anybody have any idea what the hell that was about???
Master Jackby 4 Jacks and a Jill - what the hell is that song about? It’s got to be the creepiest mainstream song of all time. Lyrics here.
I recently heard Itchycoo Park by the Small Faces. Immediately, I was taken back to 1967, wearing a mini-skirt, fishnet stockings, and white go-go boots. The world was all shiny and new and full of possibilities.
I wish there was still a radio station that actually plays ‘oldies’ from my youth. Everything is 70’s and up. I never hear anything at all from the '50s any more.
I recently heard Sneaky Snake by Tom T. Hall.
That brought me WAY back. I used to love that song when I was a kid. Forgot all about it my whole adult life. I cracked up. I know I looked like a nut driving along laughing to myself.
“Radar Love” by Golden Earring is always a two-fer for me. Just about the time the song is firmly earwigged in my head, I get to the line “Radio’s playin’ a forgotten song, Brenda Lee’s comin’ on strong…”
And then my brain immediately switches over to Brenda Lee’s “I’m Sorry.”
Every once in awhile, for no reason at all, I like to suddenly shout “I AM THE GOD OF HELL FIRE! AND I BRING YOU…”
My 23 year old fiance loves that song. He’s a big Tom T. Hall fan… and when he wants to get under my skin, he sings Sneaky Snake because he knows it’ll get stuck in my head for days.
Damned snakes and their root beer.
FIRE! The Crazy World of Arthur Brown was one of those LPs that very few other people even heard of, let alone bought. The guy was insane ahead of his time.
Ma Belle Amie, by Tee Set?
It’s a very strange world, and I thank you, needscoffee. Nostalgia, kicky yellow culottes and squick all in one music video.

**Reflections of My Life **by The Marmalade.
I heard in an episode of Life on Mars. I literally had not heard that song in 30 years, but I instantly remembered every word.
This one, which is also a candidate for “What the Hell Was That Song About?”
As far as earwigs go, sometimes there are songs I’ve just got to hear. *Don’t Fear the Reaper *is one of those as is Istanbul (Not Constantinople). I don’t know why.
I was in my local grocery store, waiting at the deli area, when I Gotcha came on! The old women there were like Hey! lets start bogeying! ha
You win.
I just heard “Washington Square” by the Village Stompers on the radio. First time in years, and I still can’t get it out of my head.
Made me want to listen to their “Midnight in Moscow.”
Bus Stop by the Hollies. I remember dancing to this with friends when I was 8.
Lately I was also thinking of “There’s a kind of hush all over the world” by ??? (not Deep Purple) and “Love can make you happy” by Mercy, and “na na na na na na na I can’t find the time to tell you”…
Whicita (sp?) Lineman by Glen Campbell
Thanks to Youtube I can remember all the weird swing-era records my dad used to annoy us kids with
Cringe-worthy “Ha-ha, those negroes are such rascals” Darktown Poker Club by Phil Harris
Great memories! Bus stop reminded me of** Don’t in the Subway**
I can’t believe it! When I saw the title of this thread, that was exactly the song that came to mind. Instantly.
I have no idea why, but it came into my mind a week or so ago after lying dormant for like forty years. Maybe because my friends thought I had the musical taste of a pumpkin for liking it. And, boy, did they make fun of me.
Sukiyaki, by Kyu Sakamoto, which was a huge hit in the US in 1963.
