Question from Germany for US Dopers

Well, it looks pretty obvious it’s a fake and, anyhow, you can’t walk through any European city without stumbling across a “New York” this or “Chicago” that-type restauruant. These restaurants very rarely have anything remotely resembling the sort of cuisine you would find in equivalent restaurants in those cities. Americans certainly don’t have a monopoly on “reinterpreting” (and I’m being kind here) foreign cuisine.

I don’t think you will find too many Der Wienerschnitzel’s in Austria
Just like you will never find a German Chocolate Cake (like we know in USA) in Germany either
But “New York Pizza” is seen all over the world…different owners, different stores - but having a store in NY called New York Pizza would be like seeing a restaurant in Hong Kong called Chinese Restaurant.

If you really want your pizza place to evoke New York, at least to a New Yorker, you should call it “Famous Original Ray’s Pizza” or some permutation thereof:
