Hi - I just heard about Kratom from a friend and was thinking about trying it. he recommended it because I have been taking suboxone for years, and he recommended this as a possible solution. I would like to stop taking suboxone, but it has been very difficult, as the side effects and withdrawals are brutal and last forever. the one time I did stop I stopped for 5 weeks and still felt terrible so I just started taking it, and I find it very difficult to taper down and stop that way. so my friend recommended this instead, he said he tried it and I should switch to this, as the withdrawals are much milder and wont last as long. However, I have read several articles on Kratom and want to make sure this would be ok to try. Any thoughts and insights are appreciated Thanks.

Kratom is a very controversial (and not yet illegal I believe) drug that is often drank in the form of a tea.
Those who use it liken the feeling to smoking marijuana and there are people who absolutely swear by it, and people who have horror stories about it.
If you can’t justify tapering from suboxone, or going to something less potent like naloxone ( think…it’s been a while since I’ve written on drugs…), then I guess Kratom would be ok…although you’re just subbing one addictive drug for another.
Honestly your best course of action is to either get into an in or outpatient facility, or just telling your doctor that you think you’ve developed an addiction to Sub and you want to get off
Hope that helps
Others might counter that it is nothing at all like marijuana, and more like a coy insinuation of an opiate buzz with a heaping helping of nausea, and furthermore that the “tea” tastes like fresh-squeezed vomit, but alas, what do I know of such things?
