I went to WalMart in Salem, NH to buy a pair of new sneakers. I saw a nice pair of sneakers that were colored mostly white, with red & a little black design, because the price was only $19.95 in size 12 I bought them, They are very comfortable for a disabled Veteran for a Retired Marine. I went to my nephews one day. He laughed when he saw my sneakers & told me do you know what FUBU stands for, I said no. He stated to me that FUBU was ( for us by us ) I said ok, then her stated to me that Black people make these sneakers for Black people? Will I be starting something if Black people see me wearing their sneakers, I have no problem wearing sneakers made by black people or people of color. Can a white man wear FUBU sneakers publically without being questioned, hurt or harmed, it is like me wearing a double winged t-shirt with a front wire wheel on it which indicates I am a member of the HA’s, I have seen at Bike Week, HA’s that either offer money for the t-shirt because the person is not a Ha or tear the t-shirt off the person is wearing it. I have no reservations wearing anything I want & buy where ever I buy it, I just don’t need the hassel what is the opinion of people that read this message? I was never able to buy comfortable sneakers for $19.95 any where to date, thank you for allowing me to air my news.
Yeah, mods, why did you give that warning to that white guy for wearing FUBU in public?
Moved to In My Humble Opinion from About This Message Board.
Assuming you’re serious, yes the FUBU line of clothing is aimed at the hip-hop market, but is not intended to be worn exclusively by African American people.
From Wikipedia:
So, if your sneakers are comfortable and you like them, yeah, go ahead and wear 'em. It’s a free country. Who cares what other people think about them?
I think the question was “Will I be physically accosted if I wear these?”, not “Will people think me a goober if I wear these?”
If people start kicking me in the nads over what I’m wearing, I’m going to care what they think about my clothing choices.
But that was a valid response on the wikipedia quote.
Maybe someone would have cared in 1995 when it was more popular and becoming fashionable, but now you can get FUBU clothes out of the clearance bin at TJ Maxx. You are definitely not making any sort of statement. Wear the shoes if they are comfortable.
Right, I got what the OP was asking. I just meant the chances of someone giving him a beatdown for wearing the “wrong” shoes are pretty remote. Unless he runs into some random asshole. But those come in all colors.
No, we don’t really care what white people wear. Rock your FUBU. I haven’t seen a Black person wearing FUBU in over a Decade anyways
Daymond John (CEO and founder of FUBU) is my favorite guy on Shark Tank.
Sure, wear the FUBUs. Stay away from penny loafers though. 'Nuff said.
They make white guy penny loafers under their other brand, FYBU.
Wear them. The USA is still a free country thanks to Marines like you.
Thanks, Matt W.
I am a little concerned about the implication that black people are likely to fly into a rage and assault a clueless old white guy for wearing “their” sneaker brand.
Or was I mistaken?
OP is trolling. Next question.
Hey, wear the FUBU, after all, YOLO.
Srsly. Nobody cares what some old white dude wears. Your nephew laughed 'cause he’s a dumbass.
I think that this is possibly the most common type of racism that is still openly around today. That is, the fear of other races, rather than the feeling of superiority or outright hatred of them. So I think the OP suffers from this type of racism, this fear that black people are inherently dangerous and he might get beaten up over it. I’ve met people with this attitude and I genuinely feel sorry for them, rather than the overt superiority racist who I despise.
If they come in mayonnaise on white, maybe he should get those. I’m that would be kool.
He does not suffer from anything. His first and only post to this forum is asking if black people are going to beat him up because of his shoes.
Eh… the phrasing “suffers” from racism was pretty terrible. I think it’s just a racist attitude certain people have. The guy I was dating last was kind of afraid of black people. He knew it, he was aware of it, and he knew he shouldn’t feel that way. But it was how he grew up and how he was raised, and it’s just this innate feeling he gets about black people in certain situations. I told him that it’s a type of racism, but as long as he doesn’t act on it, it’s not hurting anyone.
I think the OP is similar in this regard. He seems to genuinely be a decent guy and isn’t going around calling black people niggers or thinking he’s better than them. I think he just has this irrational fear of black people like some people do, and hasn’t really learned or had enough experience yet to overcome that fear entirely.
But I’m not super emotionally invested in him or anything because as you said, it was a one and only post.
Oh, yeah, I know people think stuff like this. I’m just pointing out his join date and the sheer ridiculousness of his only post here.
