Question on CD burning

Hi,
(I’m no geek and I don’t know the right terms to explain my little problem. Please be patient). I use Windows XP home.
I’ve been transfering my wav files to CDs using Musicmatch and Easy CD Creator. All of a sudden these two programs stop recognizing CDs, telling the time is 10.45 minutes. Thus, when transfering a 30 minute file, they would say “using 330% of 10.45 minutes”… What caused the change ? On the other hand Nero and Real Player still work fine.

Question 2. Nero, purchased for about $100, takes 10 minutes to burn a 60 minute file while the free Real Player takes less than 2 minutes for the same. How do you explain that ? Should I favor Real Player ? There seems to be no loss of quality.
Thanks.

I have no experience with WinME, but I have lots of experience writing CDs. I think there may be a conflict on your machine because Nero and Easy CD Creator do not play with each other. Other flavors of Windows tell you to uninstall one if you’re going to be installing the other. You might try that and see if your situation improves. Either ECDC will work, or Nero, but not likely both.

I’ll second that, and also go to the Nero website and pick up any updates, can make a huge diference in performance.

I just remembered to suggest that you go to adaptec.com and download and install their most up-do-date ASPI layer for Windows ME. Look for ME verison 4.71.2.

ASPI is a method of communication between your OS and the CD writer. Windows will work, more-or-less, without it, but will work flawlessly with it.

There’s one other thing you could check on, but first, uninstall one of your authoring programs and install the ASPI layer and write a disc, then tell us how it works. If you still have a problem with write speed or buffer underruns, I’ll have another solution.

I uninstalled ECDC and everything works. Many thanks.

The discrepency in burn times may be because you have the burning speed set differently between the two programs. I’m not sure of the different increments but I think it maxes out at 48X.
