A friend of mine who reads another messageboard sent me a really great post she read today that I wanted to share with you all. It was a really creative post by a moderator on that board on the subject of hijacking threads. I just wasn’t sure if it was kosher for me to quote another messageboard, or even to post a link to the other messageboard.
It’s had to do with pirates, too, if that makes a difference…
So, what’r the rules on posting quotes or links to other boards?
I would suggest e-mailing a mod. We have had friendly relationships with other boards, and then there are times where we’ve have Flaming Board Wars with lots of casualties.
A link would be fine; we don’t object.
We would be concerned about wholesale copying/reproduction of the entire post; that is more than fair use under the Copyright Act and we don’t want to go there.
The other concern we have is the intent behind publishing links/cites. Of course we want you to back up what you say or point out fun or interesting or useful items you find on other boards; communication is what we’re all about.
What we don’t want to see is stuff that is intended to incite action on another board. In the past we’ve had people try to start “board wars” or play “let’s you and him fight” or otherwise try to stir up controversy. We do not want people bringing their fights here. We also do not want people starting fights elsewhere with SDMB community members.
