I have the chane to buy a Panasonic RV-30 at Sears (Sears Card, hehehe)for $199, and, I was just wondering if it’s a good deal and if it’s a good player. I’d realy appriciate it.
Also, what will I need to hook it up to my TV, it only has that one place on the back of it to hook a coex cable into. Can I run the DVD player through my VCR? Or do I have to go straight to my TV using an RF Adapter therefore having the DVD player and my VCR hooked up at the same time? Just let me know what you can.
The dvd player has to hook directly to your tv or else most dvd’s won’t play. If you dont have a/v conectors, then you need an rf adapter. The reason for this is that most dvd’s have a program called macrovision which means that if the dvd player is connected to the vcr,it scrambles the picture. This is done so the you cant copy dvd movies onto tape, because dvd’s last way longer than tapes so video pirates can just copy the same dvd over and over without the picture degrading.
I just bought that very DVD player. So far I’m happy with it. $199 isn’t such a good price, though; you can get it on the Internet for as little as $146 + shipping. CNet Shopping is a good place to price-shop.
I got it at thewiz.com for $148. Strangely, they have just increased the price to $189.
I have coax from the cable box, to the VCR then to the TV. I run my DVD to the aux inputs on the VCR via the supplied RCA cables. I just have to switch the TV to video mode to play DVDs.
The VCR still gets its input from the coax while the DVD is outputting to the TV, so it won’t record the DVD. It does however, work fine.
