I’m speaking only of DVD-R recordable media - I don’t care about DVD+R or DVD-RW.
Is there any real difference between DVD-R 4.7g discs that are marked “video”, “120 Minutes”, “General Purpose” or “data”? Can’t I put video onto any of them since they are all DVD-R and 4.7 g? Or must I buy the ones specifiaclly marked “Video” or “120 Minutes”?
DVD used to stand for Digital Versatile Disc, meaning that a DVD is a DVD, and it can be used for what you want. Too many people got confused by the new name, since they associated it with a Digital Video Disc, so they changed it so now it’s just called a DVD. So basically, you can use a DVD like you can use a CD for data, video, music, etc.
I think the only two terms that mean anything are General and Authoring. Authoring DVD-Rs require a higher-end burner (Pioneer’s is $4500). The General DVD-Rs are what is used in the consumer model burners.
