If someone suffered a stroke or heart attack in the hours or days before their scheduled execution would the execution be halted, or delayed until they received medical treatment? How about if they suffered lessor medical problems such as fainting (while still in their holding cell), or injuries sustained from an attempted suicide or from resisting guards? For that matter if they managed to kill or injure a guard or visitor would they delay the execution to try them for the crime? While we are on the subject are there any drugs that a death row inmate could take to block the effects of the drugs used in a lethal injection (perhaps snuck in by a visitor or through some other means). What would they do withsome if the lethal injection drugs failed to do the job (could they kill the person some other way or would they have to petition the court for an alternative method).
