Questions about PTSD

Do people ever recover from post-traumatic stress disorder without treatment?
What is the treatment for it? Can someone have both PTSD and separate anxiety disorders?

Most people recover from PTSD without treatment. It is only if the symptoms persist beyond a reasonable recovery time and interfere with functioning that treatment is even sought. Think of all the soldiers in WWI and WWII. Many, if not most, suffered PTSD symptoms but the disease had not yet been named. Very few were permanently “shell-shocked”. Most got over their symptoms in time. I would suspect that those with anxiety disorders are more likely to need treatment after experiencing a qualifying event for PTSD.

Yes, but it can also reoccur for no apparent reason years after the person seems totally recovered. Like many mental conditions, it comes and goes.
