Questions about the Discourse move

I don’t want to post in the other thread here about Discourse since it’s more of a grousing situation.

  1. I assume we’ll be using the free version rather than springing for the supported version, especially since the lowest tier of support only allows 5 staff members and we’ve always had more mods than that.

  2. I see that Discourse has a ton of plugin integration. Are we going to end up in a situation like we have currently, where structural changes to the forums are virtually impossible, or will we see a more dynamic management style under the hood?

2b) Segueing from that, is anyone looking at the Patreon or Memberful integration as a way to manage subscriptions and rewards? Tiered memberships and a little more transparency might go a long way towards increasing revenue.

I’m guessing that they’ll use Trust Level 4 for a lot of that since most moderation that we do here is available for TL4s:

Edit any post, even closed ones.
Merge or split posts.
Close or reopen threads.
Delist posts so they don’t show up.
Flagged posts by TL4s are immediately hidden.
Issue mod notes.

Only thing we do here that TL4s can’t do there is warn/suspend/ban, and flagging would eventually take care of that.

Not so much! There are two other threads, and they have rather more good Q&A in both of them than grousing. Yeah, some grousing too.

I think you should stick to one of those threads instead of having Yet Another Thread on it.
