Knockaround Guys is a pretty underrated movie, starring Barry Pepper as a young mob associate trying to prove himself as being useful in the underworld. Through a series of convoluted Fargo-like events, he winds up losing a huge bag of cash, at a small airport where the private pilot he hired had landed his small plane for re-fueling, it gets lifted by a pair of small-time stoner delinquents, one of whose dad is the town Sherrif (played by the very talented Tom Noonan), and once he gets involved the whole thing goes to shit and the main character’s uncle (played by John Malcovich) has to come to the airport and try to retrieve the money. I liked this movie a lot, but it seems to be on the ash heap of cinema history.
Some questions raised:
-
Is cocaine use common among pilots of small private planes or small-time courier business pilots?
-
Does or did the Mafia really routinely transport bags of cash by having an individual person physically take it on a long-distance trip across the country?
-
If a law-enforcement officer like a Sherrif eyeballs you with a large amount of cash visible, can they legally have grounds to search you, stop you, or talk to you about it in any way?
-
Does anyone here compete in, or knows anyone who competes in, the sport of land luge? Seemingly random question but it actually relates to the plot (the stolen money goes towards buying equipment for it)
