OK, I’m not really sure where this belongs, so move it if it needs to be moved. What’s the average number of replies for the average thread? I feel like I’m doing something wrong here. While we’re on the subject, what’s the least number of replies anyone’s gotten for a thread they’ve started? The most?
OH, and please dont make an ass out of me by not replying at all. I realize how full of wit all you dopers are.
I don’t know the average number of replies for all threads, but I’d guess it’s somewhere between ten and fifty.
For what it’s worth, I’ve seen several of my threads sink like a stone with no replies and only a few views. At the other end of the spectrum, Esprix’s “Ask the Gay Guy” series ran through at least a thousand replies, spread over five or more incarnations (I think the mods asked him to open a new thread when the original one reached 250 replies.)
Threads have been known to die out without a reply. Some, especially in GQ have a single reply that answers a question that has a specific answer. As to the most replies, there is a limit to the length of a thread, but it would probably be one of those “increase your post count” threads. This thread has gone too far to be the shortest and I doubt if it’ll set any record for length.
