As part of our annual trip to visit my wife’s family in Indiana, she and I are taking a little two-day hop over to see Chicago, coming in on Thursday morning and heading back Friday evening.
I don’t follow the majors and can’t stand baseball on TV – but I love watching it live and go to several minor league games each year. So I figure being able to say “Why sure, I’ve taken in a game at Wrigley Field” is something that I’d like to be able to say. As it happens, the Cubs are taking on the Brewers at just about the time we’ll be rolling into town, so woohoo, play ball! We’re on a limited budget, so I don’t want to break the bank on this. So my question here is, should we spend the 50ish bucks it looks like it would take to buy non-nosebleed seats in advance, or is there a cheaper deal in town?
After that, then what? What’s a good place around there to go out for a nice dinner? How about the next day? We’ll likely do some of the touristy stuff (it is my first time there since childhood), but are there any should-not-miss things that we might not know about?
The Art Institute is great. The Museum of Science and industry used to be great, but it was looking pretty moth eaten the last time I was in there more than 30 years ago.
There are several nice restaurants along Southport, but after a game? The lines will be out the door. My favorite diner-type place isn’t too far -Windy City Gyros on Broadway just down from Irving Park, get the roasted half chicken dinner.
I guess the other thing I’d add is there aren’t really “nosebleed” seats at Wrigley. Maybe you want to avoid the very highest sections deep down the foul lines, but it’s a decent view just about everywhere.
Except for the posts. Getting stuck behind a post sucks. Try not to sit too far back if you’re on the main level. I would personally avoid any section that starts with a 2.
ETA - unless your down low like right by the 100 sections.
Much appreciated, all! Thanks to your advice, we’ve got a good itinerary put together.
One bit of information that I can’t seem to track down anywhere, that I’m hoping someone here can tell me – are you allowed to bring seat cushions into Wrigley?
