I’ll pick none of the above. No thanks to Fort Lee. Way too much traffic and congestion. I don’t mind the area around Fort Monmouth but you don’t get much for what you pay for. A few years ago when we decided to move we went west. But you can’t come here, it’s full. And it’s ugly. Despite what you heard there are no rolling hills, farmland and quaint towns. All of Hunterdon County looks like Elizabeth. Nothing to see hear, move along.
Fort Lee looks good on paper but a lot of it is very impractical. One of my friends, who works downtown, stayed there for a year or so but then decided that it wasn’t worth it so she moved into the city. The biggest problems that I have with Fort Lee have already been mentioned upthread. Navigating the area is difficult and I always hate having to go across the GWB (in a car).
I am much more partial to Fort Monmouth because of the beach factor. I like the idea of being able to get to the shore quickly without the heavy traffic that I used to deal with coming from the Oranges. From Fort Lee, the drive to the shore is probably even more tedious. Also, it really does not take that long to get into the city from Monmouth if you live near a train station. The difference in convenience is basically what robardin said about weekend trips or post-work evening trips. Personally, I think that being an hour away from something still allows for spontaneity but virtually none of my friends have ever thought to truly a trip to the city. We usually just decide to go and hop on the train/bus.
Do you want something more urban or suburban?
I just laughed my ass off. I’m picking it up off the floor as soon as I can breathe again.
I think it is allowed to bump an old thread here in IMHO. Hopefully that is true.
I was just wondering about an update from gatorman.
It looks like you are still in Florida, did you turn down the job?
