Questions regarding setup of universal remote app on iPad

Recently I purchased a new Samsung smart hub TV for my kitchen, and a Yamaha soundbar as the sound on the TV isn’t very loud and I can’t hear it really well while cooking. I also ended up added an Amazon FireTV since the AMC app is not available on the Samsung smart hub.

Now I have three remotes sitting on my counter, and since I use them while making dinner, they are starting to get messy. What I want to do is use my iPad as a universal remote. So, I bought a universal remote app for my iPad called MyURemote, and tried fiddling with it. I thought at least I’d be able to add the Samsung TV to it, as it’s on my WiFi network, but the only thing the MyURemote app finds on my WiFi is the Apple TV that’s in my living room. The Yamaha soundbar is not a WiFi device, so I need to access it via infrared.

I’ve been looking at the myuremote.com website, and apparently I need a gateway device, and what they suggest is a Global Cache gateway. I’ve been looking at the Global Cache IP2IR iTach Wired TCP/IP to IR on Amazon, and I think it will do the job, but I don’t understand how the IR emitters work.

I’ve been googling on the topic quite a bit this afternoon, but I’m not finding anything like a How to Set Up Universal Remote and IR Gateway for Dummies, with step by step instructions. The information I’m finding is geared towards people who understand this kind of networking already.

Anybody use this remote app and a gateway, and can help me out?

I know nothing about MyURemote but have had great luck with a Harmony Hub. IMHO, $70 is worth the lack of hassle.

It consists of an app and an IR emitter that sends a bright blast of infrared to your devices. IME, it bounces off the walls and reaches equipment all over the room. You can rely or your iDevice or add a remote to it. The Harmony database has a huge number of devices and has never failed to include codes for even my oddest equipment.
