We have a Sony X800G we got in December, 2019. I see a TV remote control on my iPhone 6S. I clicked it, and it searched for a TV but didn’t find one. Is there a way to use the iPhone remote control with our TV? If so, how do we do it?
That is to control an Apple TV. It won’t work with anything else.
Although I have wondered when universal remotes will be on cell phones.

OTOH, Vaderling used to control my samsung tv with his iphone 7+. I never bothered figuring out how he managed that.
You may, however, be able to download an app from Sony that can control your TV. I used to be able to control my Sony smart TV with an app on my phone. Alas, Sony’s app no longer supports my 11 year old TV.
Yeah, there are apps for controlling a TV with your phone, but they are specific to the TV company. I have a Panasonic TV remote on my iPhone. It requires the TV to be connected to the local WiFi I think.
