Quick and Easy: Name of Building in Chicago

There’s a building that appears in just about every skyline shot I’ve ever seen of Chicago. I can’t tell if it’s two buildings side by side (as it somewhat appears to be) or just one, but it has a slanted upper face in the shape of a diamond.

Just curious as to what its name is.

It’s one building, and it’s located at 150 N. Michigan. It used to be called The Associates Building, apparently not anymore. Linky-picture

Is it the this one?

I live in Chicago, and every time I pass that building I wonder what it’s name is. One night we actually drove up to it, found out its name, and promptly forget. It locally known as the “Vagina Building.”

Ah, just looked it up with those search terms. It’s the Smurfit-Stone Building.

The one next door in this picture?

It can’t be. A Smurf vagina would be much smaller.

And blue.

That’s the one, thanks. Of course, now, I’ll keep thinking of it as the Smurfette-Vagina Building so… maybe I shouldn’t have asked

(To verify: the picture in mr bus guy’s link is the Smurfit-Stone building, yes?)

Yes it is.

Sometimes called the Stone Container Building, in the sense that the Daley Center is sometimes called the Civic Center.

Wasn’t it the site of a big action scene in Adventures in Babystting?

I don’t know about that. I lived in Chicago for 7 years ending 2001, and it was never refered to as anything but the Stone Container Building.

Yep, I’ve always known it as the Stone Container Bldg. as well.

Yes! A neglected classic of the cinematic arts! I had such a crush on Elisabeth Shue back then.

You probably just ran in more educated circles than I. (I’ve lived here my whole life minus a 5-year stint abroad). Everybody I knew simply either didn’t know the name of the building or called it the “Vagina Building.”
