I almost asked this in the thread where the guidance was issued, but figured others would probably jump in with their opinions and sidetrack a thread that was already all over the place. Because of that possibility, I figured I’d get clarification here, as I don’t really have any objections to your action.
My question is: Had my post included the links without my editorializing (i.e. letting them speak for themselves) would that have been acceptable? In other words, can a person’s other statements be given as rebuttal to something, as long as I don’t add my own bias into the mix, or must each user in a debate treated independent of their stances in other threads?
It’s an issue I’ve had, too. I would prefer that @What_Exit be more specific when saying that something is attacking the poster not the post.
Granted, in this case, I think I know what it was, but I still don’t know what part of my post was seen as being personal against DSeid. (I’d link it, but I don’t want the distraction of everyone else telling me what they think I did wrong, since this isn’t my thread.)
I just think one line moderating only works when things are blatant. Otherwise, taking a couple more sentences to explain would be helpful.
Also, please use the quote function to quote the part that is the violation. That helps.
DMC, even just the links would be frowned upon in GD. That still makes it about the poster and not the post. But, the editorializing made it clear I should provide a guidance.
The links are great in the Pit, not so great in GD or P&E.
I thought it was pretty obvious what the problem with your and DSeid’s posts was, and the moderation was a good call as it stopped it turning into a fight.
I’m not sure what DSeid’s role in this was. I don’t believe he was given moderation instructions (nor did I see a reason for him to get any) and my post that What_Exit called out wasn’t directed at him.
There was another mod note earlier in the thread addressed to BigT and DSeid. That’s what BigT is asking about, but he didn’t link to it, so it’s confusing.
