Credible (bannable) threat?
Other people have already expressed it better, but this is silly. This is either NPRA or is not. As it is it just sounds like “we will spring a surprise rule on you if we don’t like your opinion”.
No. It was not made in anger. It was not meant to intimidate. It just meant to make clear that his comment on how he had something on me was so incredibly silly, that he would laughed out of teh internets if he tried to pull that off.
I am guessing he sent it around to see if he could milk something out of it and, after two days of not getting the response he wanted, he had to show up and try to make light of it.
Again, there is no “crossing Sapo”, and there is “you will regret it”, and there is no “make your life miserable”. If Colibri chooses to make an ass of himself, that is all his fault, nobody else’s. There is no threat, just pointing out how thin the ice is where he is standing.
If I tell you “don’t touch that, it is hot and you will burn your hand” that is not a threat. I am not saying I will burn your hand, I am saying that you will.
It is. You might not want to see it, but it is a departure from SOP. The fact that everybody is telling you it is should be some indication of it. You are free to ignore the signs, but that doesn’t make this less true.
Several times you have been the bigger man, admitted to a mistake and done the right thing. I know you are capable of it. This would be a good time for it.

Any other time, this might have seemed laughable, but since we’re including debate challenges-what about sports threads? I’m a Steelers fan-in a Super Bowl thread, does this mean I can’t say to any Cardinals’ fans, “We’re going to kick your sorry loser asses!” Meaning, their team?
Agreed on all counts. Ed can certainly fly off the handle (who doesn’t once in awhile), but he’s also capable of being one of the few who can genuinely admit their mistakes around here.

I’m not Sapo’s biggest fan, but I agree that Ed’s warning was unclear and the whole “clearing it up” seems to make it even more unclear. Plus this seems like a new rule now? It might take a bit to get used to since not everyone reads every thread. Course, you could say that “no threats” was always a rule of the boards/Pit, but I guess I’m in the boat that **Sapo’**s post wasn’t really and out and out threat.

Jeez, Sapo. Can’t you give it a rest sometimes? It seems like most of the threads in the pit bitching about the administration or how the boards are run are made by you. If a topic is made bashing the boards or the mods/admins that run it, or something that seems to disagree with a mod/admin decision, I would BET ON IT that you were the one that made it, even before seeing said, hypothetical topic-maker. I wouldn’t be as worried about being banned due to jokey threats as I would be about being banned due to that “No having the majority of your posts complaining about the SDMB” rule, which you seem to be approaching at a rapid rate.
Seriously…if someone tells me a board/admin bitchfest started, I usually predict that one of four posters have made the thread:

But anyway, if I were running this place, I’d probably start getting a bit more irate and annoyed with you too if all it ever seemed like, lately, was that you were complaining about something or other regarding the boards. Ed may be overreacting here, but you seem to complain an awfully lot as of late (as of late being, the last six months or so). Maybe you wouldn’t have been a blip on the radar if you had just stopped complaining for once. : p

As for your claim, I need to ask for a cite. From the “threads started by Sapo” first page, out of those 25, 3 are pittings:

The Ed, WTF, which is just accessory to this one.
There are 4 other ATMB “Explain this to me” which have gone politely and calmly, and where I often end up agreeing with TPTB once things are explained. No bitchings.
So in the last month or so, out of 25 threads I have started, there have been only two issues on which I have complained:
The Lynn meltdown, which was big enough that resulted in some ridiculous new rules and everything, and that if I hadn’t complained somebody else would have.
And this one, which started innocently with me asking for something (accepting a mod’s invitation to ask) and turned ugly after a mod tried to be funny.
Hardly a pattern of troublemaking, IMO. (going further back, there are two more ATMB questions from the day I returned after my 2008 leave). There might be some potshots here and there on threads other people started, but those were already broken when I got there, to use my kids’ argument.
You might be remembering me more because the few times I decide to make a fuss about something, it is because a fuss needed to be made and TPTB end up getting their asses handed to them. So it is not that I start every fight, but that I chose them well.

Currently I’m really enjoying the pop-culture stuff here in CS. Before I read this thread, I’d have assumed that if I said to, say Lightray or CandidGamera “Dudes, you do NOT want to mess with me on comic book trivia–I’ll kick your asses”, I would have proved to be a nerd, but beyond that, it would have been 100% ok.
Now? I dunno. Is it only in the pit? Is it only mods? Is the fact that a body part is involved in the “threat”?
This rule makes no sense at all.
Also–I thought the rule regarding Non-Pit Rules Apply was that the title would be changed to reflect that. I came here following a link and except that I happened to scroll backwards, I wouldn’t have known. Hence the (sensible) rule that the thread title be changed.
Finally, why was the original ATMB thread closed? I thought that you all had made the decision (which I heartily endorse and think was a wonderful choice on your part) that “discussions” of moderator actions can occur in ATMB so they don’t necessarily become flame-fests. I think this was one of the best rules changes made to the SDMB in the last 9 years. I don’t get why the initial thread was closed.
And am I or am I not a motherfucker? I’m on tenterhooks here.

I guess my point is just that…sure, others complain and were in those topics–and you’re right, not all of them were made by you–but you just seem to be the only one in ALL of them. : p It’s like you never seem to pass up a chance to bash the mods here. And I’m not saying that you and others don’t have good reason to be upset, but again, even when things are good, you (alone) seem to do nothing but complain.
So really, even though Ed may have overreacted in this thread in some (and my) opinion, if he’s seen the history I’ve seen, I probably would have been ready to say “shut up for once” too. 
I hate to hijack my own thread with something that is of no real consequence, but that is just a list of mod bashing threads where I posted in some form or another. Some random snipes, some even siding with TPTB, mostly me-toos.
Plus you are adding question-asking threads. Those are not bashings (unless you think that TPTB are in such a frail position that any question is an affront). In most of those I have been satisfied with the answer and with my ignorance fought.
I stand by my count. The Lynn meltdown and now this one are my only actual complaints since my return. Add to that the “this is not a question” that I had missed (and was super lame).
I can even let you add the background noise of my “knock it off” peeve that I drop from time to time, even if I have not started an actual thread about it.
Still, no excuse. Ed’s own “moderators are held to a higher standard” and all that. No matter how little he likes me, that’s no reason to invent offenses to issue warnings. I mean, sure he can, but he shouldn’t.

I don’t really have a problem with you, and we’ve never butted heads, so please take this as objectively as it’s offered: You may be in the right here (and I think you are), but you have definitely come off as a persistent asshole in the past, which is why you drew such a strong overreaction this time. Let this one play out, however it does, and then consider dialing it back in the future.

I just don’t like the strategy of “look the other way until it goes away” that we get here every so often. I push for an answer when I think an answer is needed. Even a “no comment” is normally good enough for me. Pretending I am not here is not.
This one is already played out, I think. Ed might or might not come to say he was wrong or to reaffirm his position. Colibri might or might not pop in to clarify his position on what happened. Either (or both) would be nice, but I am not holding my breath.
I don’t need their word to know what happened. I think that the public reaction in this case is so overwhelming that I don’t need their statements anymore. Their responses at this point would be purely to their benefit.
The warning in my tally is irrelevant as there is no magic number of warnings that will get me banned or suspended or whatever.
Even if there were such magic number and this warning stayed, I don’t think I will be “threatening” other people again as I never do. So my chances of a second/first offense is close enough to zero that it doesn’t matter.
It already happened and on or off the record it will be in their memories for the same (probably short) length of time. If I wanted to go all cynical about this, I might even hope the warning stays as it gives them closure and helps them move on without itching for revenge. I don’t think it is the case anyways and I don’t care either.
As I said, it is their board. There is no due process or anything of the sort. They can ban me for no reason and in less than a week nobody would remember or care. Neither would I. I like it here, but this is hardly pivotal in my life. My plate is about to get very full again, just as it did last year and took me out of circulation for a few months.
Still, I will remain a persistent asshole for as long as I stay. Not about this one, which as I said is water under the bridge, but about the next one. Not only I will, but I think other people should too. I have no objection to “fiat voluntas mea” but I want to hear it when that is the case.
Letting things pass under the table is not my thing.
If he bitches too much about the mods, then call him on it. If he is that bad, then probit him from postig in such threads. Instead of doing this, Ed trumped up a charge. That’s grossly unacceptable.

Seriously, WTF, Ed? I don’t think I’ve ever been involved in any of these “Poster VS PTB” grapples, but that’s not to say that I haven’t read a couple. One thing that struck as really fuckin’ bizzarre was the “Pit Rules Apply On” and “Pit Rules Apply/Off” or whatever the hell that piece of insanity is called. And now this. 
I mean this in a good way, Ed, you still have a good thing going here – stop the micromanagement. Because even if we all know you mean well and have a lot of pressure on your shoulders, it’s clearly back-firing on you.
