My son’s 14th birthday is tomorrow. He’s expecting a red velvet cake, but I’m going to surprise him with a royal blue velvet cake, which is more Dr Who-ish, I’d think.
Now, any other ideas? I haven’t thought this through and frankly don’t know a whole lot about the Dr. I think Hot Topic has some figurines and such that I could decorate a cake with, but maybe someone here will have nifty ideas…

There is this Tardis cake. They call it quick and easy but I’m not so sure…
The Dalek cupcakes seem a bit easier to me.

Or you could just do a regular square cake, cut it tardis shaped and frost it with blue icing. Add some details by just drawing them in, and there you go. No fontant required.
I dunno, the tardis is basically a blue police box, it doesn’t get easier than rectangles.
I could do a flat frosting and then ice the details with a little writing tip, I think. Although a blue cake with blue frosting might be a bit much.
When he wanted a chessboard cake, all I had to do was find dark and light square candies to make the design. This is a little more worky.
If I were you, I would do exactly as you described - flat blue frosting, use a writing tip to outline the tardis details, contrasting color to write “police box” or whatever it’s supposed to say on it. It’ll look great.
I certainly hope for the regular meal that you will be serving bow tie pasta. Bow tie pasta is cool.

This looks cool, a Dalek cake.
Stick a paint roller and a toilet plunger into the side, decorate the top appropriately, and you can make your cake the Head of a Dalek. *
*When we made MilliCal’s Dalek costume a couple of years ago, I made a point of using an actual paint roller and a n actual toilet plunger, both painted gold.
Dalek cakes have really become popular.
The episode “Aliens of London” did a parody of the original cooking segment with this cake. I’m not sure how they did the wings.

Such good ideas! I kind of copped out, because I was running short of time. So I bought store-made sugar cookies, frostings of various colors, and decorated those. Actually turned out kind of cool…it gave me a chance to do different ideas–logo, several Tardis-themed designs, a few with words/logos, etc. I’ll post a pic after I get it loaded. TBone was very happy, and that’s what counts! (The Dr Who shirt didn’t hurt either!)
