QUICK- need help with Word document

I have a word document- a huge one.

I did a Control-S to save it onto my disk again.

But then I realized I didn’t need to, so I decided to abort by ejecting the disk :smack:. Now the doc’s frozen, saying it’s saving the doc on the disk.

I have Task Manager open. I see all the applications running. Which .exe is the one I need to end in order to make my document stop trying to save to the disk? Or do I just need to close the doc (losing a little bit of info :smack:)?

:smack: :smack:

Hi again.

Sorry, I was doing something wierd there.

Anyone know?

First rule: Never remove a floppy while an application is saving.!
AFAIK you should shutdown the application, restart it, and hopefully you will be able to return to where you were prior to the ‘save.’
Word Perfect often saves a bakc up copy for such ocassions as randon shutdowns.

There is no process you can end to stop the save, your only option is to close word. I don’t understand something though, if you didn’t need to save, how are you going to be losing info? As well, never just eject a floppy until it is stopped, it could corrupt the disk, losing all data on it. I do however find it amusing you are a using a floppy. Didn’t know some people still used one of them.

What should I use? I only had a minute to save my files before I ran out the door this morning to the computer lab, and the CD I was trying to use wasn’t working for some reason.

Should I get a USB key? Fuck yes, I think- I just closed Word, restarted the PC, and now I have to redo some work. Disks suck, and CDs are non-rewritable unless you have a burner. Fuck.

3-1/2" floppies good for backups.
Still use them for some items of annual interest and historical information.
USB thumb/flash drive faster and generally more convenient for most files.

Not so sure how floppies are better for backup then Flash drives. You did snip that quote of mine, but I did mention floppies in particular. IIRC flash drives are able to saved to something like 1 million times, CDs 1000 times, not sure how much for floppies but can’t be close to 1 million. Plus its harder today to get a system with a floppy then without.
