Quick Question about daffodil bulb availability

My mom’s birthday is Oct. 6. Since she just moved to a new house with no flower plantings a friend suggested daffodil bulbs would be a good present and apparently fall is the time you plant bulbs.

My question is: Can I wait till Oct. 1 to buy the bulbs or will they be all sold out/picked over by then? Money’s tight, waiting till next paycheck (get paid monthly) would be helpful, but can swing the $30 I’d like to spend if the Doper wisdom is “Act now, buy now!”

Thanks!

Ah, you should be fine.

You can either order them on-line or just pick up a sack at a garden center or Home Depot. At least in New England, bulbs are pretty generally available through October (most people don’t get motivated to plant them until the first frost wipes out the existing garden).

you’ll probably see them in stores as Narcissus. A fancy name for Daffodil.
