Looking for a reasonably priced (<$150) hotel downtown and some suggestions on things to do.

Mrs Piper and I have stayed a view times at this Holiday Inn Express and liked it - close to a lot of the downtown stuff, clean, reasonable price.
This weekend is Doors Open Toronto, where 175 museums, parks, churches, and other interesting buildings and sites around the city will be open for free, so there’s a ton of stuff to do and the price is right! Below is a link where you can check out all the different events, times, and locations to see if there’s anything that interests you.

talk about stepping ass backwards into a good deal. You picked a good weekend.
I’ve stayed at the Delta Chelsea downtown and thought it was clean, quiet, and good location. It’s right off of Yonge.
Just last week I stayed at the Strathcona Hotel (416 363-3321) for around 60 dollars per night (booked via Expedia). Great hotel in every way. Close to shops and coffee places. About 10 minutes walk from the CN Tower, and with cool places like Queen Street similarly close. Hotel itself has good amenities (bar and restaurant, WiFi, internet) and suited me perfectly. And the Shuttle Bus for the airport stops literally right across the street.
On thing to watch out for is the ferry dock after dark.
Full of life and people during the day, but when the sun goes down you are all alone with the winos grabbing at you.
You say that as if it were a bad thing.
