Quick--take a look at the publisher web site!

Harper Voyager UK has been hacked, and every article there is now about cheap Chinese jerseys. Enjoy it before they fix it.

Interesting.
Though from a quick glance the site sucked so much it may be an improvement.

hAH!

Where’s the little “Report this entire website” button?

Probably been changed into a “1-click buy all the cheap Chinese NFL jerseys” button.

The hack not only inserts commercial links into the pages but also adds tons of text seemingly randomly picked up from other web sites. And plugging one interesting passage into Google showed that Harper Voyager is not the only victim.

It’s all fun and games until someone gets their computer malware’d. :o

I’d be cautious. Drive-by infection is too easy, and whoever set up those subpages has already demonstrated their lack of respect for the law and people’s online system integrity.

This is why installing pre-made CMS platforms (like Wordpress) as your website freaks me out, as a developer/host. Every website log I’ve ever seen is full of entries from bots scanning for every known and unknown vulnerability in the code, trying to hack your shit. All day, every day.

Every so often, they hit and you end up with this. :frowning:

If you were to read the “articles” you’d probably find links to some website selling jerseys.

This attack is likely an attempt to increase their own site’s Google ranking by creating back links on other sites. This type of thing hasn’t worked since the 90s and this is a particularly inept attempt anyway.

You’d think they could have put the site in abeyance by now…
