Obama, darling, you know I love you. I caucused for you, I donated to your campaign several times, I voted for you, I encouraged others to vote for you. I [heart] you.
You are now elected. Go forth. Be President. But quit asking me for money.
Keep your winter hat and 24-month calendar. I will not be donating $35 or more. In fact, I will not be donating again. I’m broke, and you’re the President-Elect. I’ve done my part, and you’ve done yours.
In the fundraising class I taught this semester, I spent some time talking about “donor fatigue.” I think I’m going to have to invite David Plouffe to next year’s class.
This money is not for me. A $10 million payment is due to the honorable governor of Illinois within the next 3 days to appoint Oprah as the next U.S. senator from Illinois. The recent economic crisis has hit all of us and funds are now tied up in other deals.
Please purchase the calendar and add an extra zero or three on the check.
Doesn’t he need to money to pay off Hillary’s campaign debt?
The guy has $30 million, last I heard. Maybe he’s planning to fund the bailout all by his lonesome? Surely he’s not thinking about Election 2012 this soon?
I’m very glad that I entered an e-mail address I rarely use when making my campaign contributions. I’m a bit amazed how many e-mails I’ve gotten from them since the election, but it hasn’t really registered as much of an inconvenience…
Ah ha! I almost started a thread asking if Dems are still getting political e-mails too, and it seems to be the case. McCain has stopped e-mailing me, but I’m still getting GOPsenate e-mails a few times a week. The odd thing is that they’re no longer overtly begging for money, but “thanking me” and “updating me on victories”. Huh.
Like any sensible person these days, I have multiple email addresses.
One of them is the one I give to any business, campaign organization, whatever, that asks for my email address. I do no personal correspondence out of that address. I check it when I’m expecting a particular email - a confirmation of an online order, say - and otherwise, I pop in once every couple of weeks to see what’s there, most of which I ignore.
As a result, even though I’m on the email lists of numerous political campaigns and groups, I see none of their emails in the address that friends and family email me at.
For real. I mean, Barack you know I love you/did you see I waved?/I believe in you and Joe/so tell me we are saved, but enough! The election’s over and the merchandise is just getting cheesier and weirder. I’m surprised there’s not a Burger King tie-in with Bobble Head Cabinet Appointees or Biden Bathoils for $50 Pledges. NPR is going to start telling you to stop asking for more before long.
Of course one thing that irks me is that I received my Obama-Biden magnet days after the election and more than a month after I gave the donation for it.
Pity Obama can’t use some of the millions towards Hillary’s debts. I’m not donating to her, but as someone who donated to BO I would have no problem with him paying people left holding the bag for her campaign debts (though he’s not legally able to do so).
I was rather impressed to get a thank you card from the Obamas that didn’t have one plea for donations or a web address or anything on it- it just said “thanks” (and other fluffery). Nice.
The rest of it? Sigh. I get it from their perspective—why stop a good thing? But you kinda gotta know when enough is enough. Don’t make the people irritated with you, my man. There’s gonna be plenty of opportunity for that in the future.
