When I was studying philosophy, we were told a story about some medieval theologian, possibly a monk, who said something to the effect that every time he thought of Satan he laughed, because it was ludicrous for Satan to think he could defy the omnipotent and omniscient God.
However, I have no idea who said this. I don’t know if it was a distinguished figure from theology like St. Anselm, Peter Abelard, or Duns Scotus, or just someone who is only remembered for this comment. Has anyone else heard anything like this, and can they identify the laugher or who told this story?
