You need to know when to hold 'em…
Probably the stupidest bit of advice I’ve seen, and the song is objectionable on many more levels.
That sounds familiar…
Oh yeah:
Hmm. I did a search to see if I’d contributed that before and it came up empty.
I still love it.
It is what it is.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
Now hush up all, of you.
“It is what it is.”
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here. (annon, from a bathroom wall in Kelly’s bar in Kansas City Mo 1974)
“Which is farther, to Duluth or by bus?”
Bathroom, U of Wisconsin, early 80’s.

It’s always in the last place you look.
Well, yes because once you find it, you don’t keeping looking!
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
My spin on that is
Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stranger.
“You’ve got to love yourself before someone else will love you.”
Bullshit. There are plenty of low self-esteem-having people who have significant others. People say this kind of thing to be helpful, but it always comes across as super smug to me.
“God doesn’t give you more than you can handle.”
Bullshit! Whenever I hear this, I want to ask the speaker if they’re aware that hundreds of thousands of people die every day. I don’t know why anyone would two brain cells would ever take comfort in this saying.
If a thread is a zombie twice, does it become un-undead, and thus alive again?
“You’ve got to love yourself before someone else will love you.”

I believe the point of this is that people who don’t like themselves are annoying to be with, what with all the whining all the time and all.
“God doesn’t give you more than you can handle.”
This, on the other hand, is just bullshit spouted by people who wish to believe in an omnibenevolent god despite all of reality and their own holy book saying it ain’t so. So it’s not meant to comfort you, it’s to comfort them that the fact you just got terminal cancer doesn’t prove them wrong.
ACK! I was just informed that I picked the world’s most insensitive random example in my prior post. My deepest apologies, and pardon me while I slink off now.
me.

Amen, sister! [or brother-I don’t always keep track]
“Writing about music is like dancing about architecture.” — Attributed to a whole clutch of people, including Steve Martin and Frank Zappa.
It’s a stupid quote that is generally used to dismiss any and all discussion of music, and implies that anyone who even tries to talk about music is engaging in pointless pseudo-intellectual twaddle.
Please don’t feel bad, @begbert2!
S’aright, though I do miss the forehead-smack smiley.
(And yes I know there are ways to make that still happen but I’m ignorant and lazy.)

Yogi, you obviously watched the KC Chiefs Sunday.
My favorite twist on this one is, “Whatever doesn’t kill you, makes you stranger .”
What doesn’t kill me makes me whinier.
