R.I.P. Luis Tiant

Luis Tiant has died at the age of 83:

He wasn’t the greatest pitcher of his era, but he was one of the most interesting. It seemed like he never used the same motion twice in a row. He was a master at disrupting the batter’s timing. He got the most national exposure pitching for the Red Sox in the 1975 World Series, in which he started three games and threw twenty-five innings. The Red won that Series (one of the best ever), but the Red Sox made it close, and Tiant was a big part of it.

Saw Loo-ee match up with Jim Palmer at Fenway.

Those were fun days, with him and the Spaceman in the starting rotation.

One of our favorite pitchers. MrsFtG saw him pitch when he was a young minor league player.

My favorite quote of his, after an unusually good game in the twilight of his career: “I pitch, I win.”

It’s all about the 'tude.
