All over the news today is the death of Mark Speight - apparently having taken his own life, following the recent death (by drug-related misadventure, in which he was initially implicated) of his girlfriend.
Of course it’s a sorry end that will likely mar everyone’s impression of him, and will probably make discussion of his life taboo for some people.
But he was a witty, cheeky, energetic, brilliantly and diversely talented man. We are poorer for his loss. I hope people will strive to see beyond the recent trouble and tragedy and will appreciate him for the colour and sparkle he brought to life.
He was in a show called ‘Timmy Towers’, one episode of which was called ‘Timmy Towers Goes Really Wild’, and featured Michaela Strachan, key presenter of the RWS.
I’ve been following this since early January. I don’t know why the story makes my heart hurt, but it does. I think it’s because the UK press is generally brutal, but for some reason handled this with kid gloves. I was really, really hoping he’d turn up in Spain and it bothers me that he didn’t.
