Skip Williamson, the underground comix pioneer and longtime contributor to PLAYBOY, died of multiple organ failure while in a medically-induced coma. He was 72.
Oh, shit. He was a favorite of mine.
Not the crappy stuff he did for PLAYBOY, the earlier work with Snappy Sammy Smoot and Ragtime Billy. Some genius stuff, back in those days.
Wow, just 11 days after his comix partner Jay Lynch.
Whoa! JAY LYNCH died?
…I never really liked Jay Lynch’s work. But he was a driving force behind Chaicago’s BIJOU FUNNIES in the 1960s, the major underground comix publication in between NYC and Frisco.
And how the hell did he end up in Candor, New York?
Gotta go now and send a “good health” spell over the astral plane to R. Crumb, Justin Green, Trina Robbins, Bill Griffith, Frank Stack, Dan O’Neill, and all the other old hippies…
Damn. The next few years are going to be difficult for those of us who loved the old Undergrounds.
I will miss Skip. He sent me a lot of signed stuff of his a few years back.
