A cat that got into it with a raccoon would come to a sad end. Raccoons are mean, tough animals. Whoever was holding the camera wasn’t being very responsible - if I were in that position I would be more concerned with the cats’ safety than with getting some video to post on youtube.
Ha !
That video is missing one thing, the racoon laughing like the Joker as it runs away. I had a squad of these little bandits coming through the bushes towards my campsite not this spring in Frontenac Park. It was a mixed feeling of a little fear and amusement when I shined my light into the darkness and saw five sets of eyes staring back at me, waiting. Just waiting for me to go to sleep.
I like that the cats didn’t run away. It looked more like Mexican stand off and I think I heard one of the cats growl/hiss near the end.
Now had those been meerkats, the tribe would now have 4 new racoon-paw back scratchers.
I like how he grabbed the food at the end and seemed to be saying, “Punk ass, bitches.”
This just happened to my cats yesterday morning at firrst light and I chased the coon away with a broom. Forgot to take the dry cat food in the previous night. Racoons can tear a cat up, carry rabies and harbor parasites; you don’t want them near a cat. I leave my cats outside from dawn to dusk when its nice and never have problems with raccoons during the day, but at night they rove around like roving gangsters.
I know what you mean. I’m supposed to be in the burbs - part of the grand Boston-NY-Phil-DC megalopolis. And ok, the houses around here are on pretty big lots, but we’re not talking about goin’ out to find pa on the back 40 or anything. I can see my neighbors in every direction (most of the year).
And I don’t think it used to be like this. Shunk, ground hogs, the occasional deer, etc. But the past few years it seems like we’re over run. The deer especially. Thankfully they seem to have gotten good at crossing the roads though, which is nice. But I don’t think I ever remember raccoon.
You know what’s next right? Bears. But if even the ground hogs around here have an attitude (in mating season they actually tear shit apart), I almost expect the bears to roll up in their own pimpmobiles.
Man, that’s a skinny raccoon!
A raccoon bite will infect and kill a cat within a few days.
And now that this cameraperson has allowed the little bandit to eat there he will soon have a serious raccoon problem.
But,
I agree that it was humorous. Especially the part at the end when he grabs two hands full and runs off standing up!
Yeah cats and raccoons have an interesting relationship. I’ve had cats that will hang out in the trees with them quite companionably, other cats that seem blithe to them, and some who just don’t like them at all and will chase them as long as the raccoon was running off in that direction anyway.
Raccoons don’t seem to care about cats one way or another, for the most part. I think that’s why cats like them. It’s why cats like me.
The outdoor cats and raccoons in a neighborhood become very familiar with one another and will even form loose frienships just as a dog and cat might do. I have had one comming through my doggy door for years eating the cat food. Sometimes I see the cat and coon sitting on the fence side by side. They normally will tolerate one another pretty well. My raccoon bandit has gotten so big he is a little scary to look at and has to squeeze through the door to get in. I recently tore out his nest on my patio roof and have been seeing much less of him.
