Racialism: Everyone's Favorite Politics

Why are Hispanics getting AA?

Why aren’t Asians getting AA?

In what way have Hispanics gone through more than Asians that would warrant this huge disparity in treatment?

As an Asian, I am constantly discriminated against by black people. We should not stand around waiting for the world to become colorblind before black people do something to alleviate this.

Are Asians underrepresented in colleges due to historical injustices?

Is “Pulled over for being Asian” a thing?

That is a horrible analogy.

By that reasoning we would devote almost all our public school resources to the special ed kids.

On the other hand it can’t be purely utilitarian either otherwise we would provide very little extra support for special ed kids.

By the opposite reasoning we should just pretend that there are no special ed kids and just treat them like everyone else.

OK, where do I say we should ignore the effects of bigotry?

Or is all racial inequality the result of bigotry? If not then how much?

This is still on the table…and in my opinion it sits on top of all the other things brought up here. If affirmative action doesn’t do it for you, then what do you propose to replace it with?

Do you know how hospital triage works? I suppose not, with that reply. Does the emergency room devote all of its resources to the most critical patient, or do they simply prioritize the resources based on need?

When you say:

How do we look to achieve a more equitable society without recognizing one of the greatest causes of inequality?

Yes, pretty much. Historical or current, racial inequality is there because people were treated differently based on the color of their skin.

Can you explain where racial inequality comes from if it doesn’t come from treating people differently based on their skin color?

They’re not as good at it as they used to be. There aren’t any more Asian concentration camps. Asians are now legally allowed to immigrate to the USA. They don’t hang Asian men for dating white women anymore in most places, they just shake their head at the woman’s poor taste in men.

It would be a law requiring affirmative action directed specifically at the descendants of slaves for the next X years to be renewed every X years.

I would want to run studies looking at the cause of the disparities and try to address them rather than indefinitely maintain a system where there large gaps in academic achievement along racial lines.

But at some point we have to say, we are done. It could be in 5 years or 50 years but this cannot go on forever under the notion that society is too racist for blacks to prosper despite no de jure discrimination.

How so?

Last time I checked bigots didn’t base their hatred on whether a person is a direct descendent of a slave or not.

Are you saying there have been no historical injustices suffered by Asians?

Unless your goal is equality of results regardless of ability or merit, how is under or over representation relevant if you cannot point to significant differences between the history of Asians in this country and the history of Hispanics in this country? We are talking about pretty significant disparities in how these two groups are treated in the college admissions process, the government contracting process, the employment process, etc.

So I’ll ask again:

Why are Hispanics getting AA?

Why aren’t Asians getting AA?

In what way have Hispanics gone through more than Asians that would warrant this huge disparity in treatment?

That’s not a position I have ever taken.

Is “pulled over for being Hispanic” a thing?

Different problems require different solutions.
What disparities do Asians in the U.S. currently face, and how may they be alleviated?

I’m not SAYING anything. I’m ASKING you if Asians are underrepresented in colleges due to past injustices. Are they?

This is like playing whack-a-mole. If I address disparities Hispanics face, what group are you going to bring in next?

Oooh, ooooh, can you do Mennonites next?

Do you understand the difference between “they need help” and “they needed help”, Damuri Ajashi?
