Radio shows and Driver's License Pics!

I was just on the Ron and Fez show out of NYC, (they feature a website every night, and tonight was http://www.straightdope.com) and heard myself on the 40-second delay after I hung up.

How is it that no matter how hard you try, you always sound like a total choad on the radio. I was stuttering and stammering, which I did not notice while I was on the phone. Somehow they must use the same technology that makes your Driver’s License pic look hideous, no matter how much you try to not look recently concussed.

Anyone else have similar experiences???

Yea. In my limited radio experiance, I did the daily events calendar and did some commercial voice over stuff. I am still the voice of emergency contreception and Planned Parenthood in the Burlington/Montreal area. I’d turn the radio down when I heard the lead into my spots in the beginning, but after a while, when I got more comfortable with the computer systems, I took my time and banged out something I was proud of.

I still hate my outgoing answering machine message, though.

So what did you say, Wonk?

Well, I said I really liked the SDMB and Fez asked me what we talked about on there- I stuttered quite a bit (did not hear it when I said it- heard it on the delay after I hung up) and the only thread I could think of was the What is in -your- desk thread I did a few weeks back. It was ugly.

On the other side of the coin, I am in complete control of my phones, and how I sound on them. Most of my listeners do quite well, and if they don’t, I berate them to tears. I don’t really. They do it all on their own. Other listeners know what a crackpot sounds like. I don’t have to manipulate any aspect of the call in order to make them sound stupid…although I can if I choose…I haven’t done it yet.

It’s just nerves…I had them for about 8 months before I became comfortable being on the air. Now, anything can happen and it doesn’t phase me…Christ, it’s been 10 yrs, I hope I don’t lose it over some operating mistake or listener freak out.

I should mention that ALL of you are welcome to call me and go on the air.

Maybe I’ll ask some Florida dopers to give me their take on the election??

Does your show have a webcast? If it does, you just might get a call from Wonko one of these days… Let me know where I can find out about your show.
