rage against the machine: banned from your local radio station?

since september 11th, my local radio station (107.3 WAAF) has refused to play any songs by rage against the machine. i was just wondering if other radio stations were doing the same thing, still…i mean, i can understand not playing anything on the 11th, and maybe a few days after that, but how long can they just not play them for having different ideas?

Are you sure there’s been an outright ban? My radio station hasn’t played them in a while, but that’s because they haven’t put anything new out in a long long time. They weren’t playing them even before 9/11.

yeah, i’m sure…WAAF doesn’t really care if they have any new hits or not…they were still in heavy rotation up to the day of the attacks.

If I were only so lucky to have my local stations ban Rage.

FWIW, 94.7 and 101.1 in Portland haven’t banned Rage. If anything, it’s on heavier rotation.

I seriously doubt that WAAF has banned Rage. This is a station that prides themselves on pushing the envelope, not toeing the line. To tell the truth, it’s been at least two or three months since any of the stations I listen to (out of Boston and Portland- BCN, FNX, CYY) have played any Rage, which isn’t surpising, since the other stations only play songs frequently when there’s a new album…fine with me since I don’t like Rage at all. I’m a former WAAF listener(they fired Opie and Anthony! Now they’re on another station) and in retrospect I think they played their favorites way too often. Maybe they’re got with the program, finally, and started playing more new stuff?

As long as they want, of course. Here in America, we have freedom of speech, but that doesn’t obligate any private company to provide a venue for such speech. There’s probably a number of radio stations in the country which had banned RAtM before the attack, as well, and they were perfectly within their rights to do so.

Never mind Rage. What hope does Anthrax have of ever being played on the radio again?

Dude I am so pissed. My local DJ won’t spin my favorite Skid Row tune anymore…

It’s all because of ClearChannel Communications (sic). You know, the company that owns all these “corporate rock” stations. They issued a “don’t play” list following the attacks, that was subject to much mockery (it includes many things that make you scratch your head, old Beatles tunes and such). I don’t believe that local affiliates are required to stick by it, but they are encouraged to. It looks like several are.
