I need to travel from Toronto to Hartford. I can’t drive there and rail seems to be the cheapest option.
Unfortunately there are no direct routes but I found a major discrepancy in pricing between AMtrak and VIA rail. I need to go into Buffalo first to connect anywhere in the states.
Now, by VIA rail its $180 cdn to go from Toronto to Buffalo… which is insane… via AMtrak its only $25 US… I don’t see how this is possible and wonder if there is some mistake somewhere.
Also, if anyone can recommend a better cheaper way to get from Toronto to Hartford it would be appreciated.
Nevermind… When I checked before… all air-flights were over 400 CDN and none were direct…
For whatever reason, I checked today and there were plenty of direct flights for under 300 cdn.
VIA made my brower crash twice, so no help there. Before I gave up, I noticed there were several fare tiers, “economy” being cheapest. Are you sure the $180 wasn’t for first class (or whatever they call it)?
Greyhound bus lines seems to be charging $76 each way. Their website is infinitely more user-friendly than either VIA’s or Amtrak’s. http://www.greyhound.com/
Amtrak also has a train from Montreal to Hartford called the “Vermonter”. If you have some convenient way to get to Montreal, that might be worth looking into.
