Rain, rain, go away and come back another day

All I want to do is mow the bloody lawn. It’s been over 2 weeks since I mowed it and it looks dreadful. But the grass is so long I need half a day - preferably a whole day - of decent sunshine for the grass to dry sufficiently. But either it’s rained or I’ve been elsewhere.

And we’ve just had a cracking thunderstorm and we’re due a very wet weekend.

And mowing in the rain - even light rain - with an electric mower is most definitely not a good idea.

Grrr…

Why does the grass need to by dry to mow it?

Wet grass clogs the mower, sticks to the blades, and comes out in unsightly clumps. It’s much harder to pushmow wet grass as opposed to dry grass.

Hear ye. Summer my arse.

And it’s dark now by 930 - we’ve lost a whole hour of light in a couple of weeks. Winter approacheth!

(I’m off to Spain in December if anyone cares to join me. We can have a sunny, anti-SAD Dopefest in Madrid.)

Also, by this time the ground isn’t just saturated, but supersaturated. Just running the mover over the grass leaves tire marks gouged inches deep.

I can’t read the title of this without hearing Nine Inch Nails’ “Down In It” in my head. Which soon morphs into Skinny Puppy’s “Dig It”…

So now I have this going on behind my eyes and between my ears.

Well, if the weather forcasters are to be believed, and they seldom are, the weather pattern of the last eight weeks - rain 5/6 days a week, thunderstorms 2-4 of those days - is supposed to end by the beginning of next week. We’ll see, huh?

For the hell of it, I checked out the national weather service page for my area. Out of the past 75 days, it has rained 50. There have been 29 days with thunderstorms in the same timeframe.

Has the summer weather been so poor in other places?

I wish it would rain.

I’d kill a whole family for a week of rain.

Well, there are clear blue skies overhead. I’m going to give it another hour to dry off then I’m outside.

No rain here. But no grass, either.

Glorious sunshine this morning, but the clouds are coming over already :frowning:

I’m planning to take the afternoon off and take my daughter to the park, but we may end up inside at this rate.

Weekend looks shite as well - here’s to a sunny autumn (by far my favourite season anyway).

I can vouch for that! I was keeping going to finish the lawn about 3 or 4 weeks ago and only had a small patch left to do but the rain was starting to get heavier… I needed to move the flex - OUCH! Followed by hopping about and swearing.
I found I had to go to the pub to recover properly…

I’ve not had a chance since, so it really needs cut again - especially that last little bit which is still about 4 inches longer than the rest!

I’m only a few miles nawth from you, but it’s been pretty piss poor here too. It’s not often that I have to drain water out of the pool in the summer - and this summer I’ve had to drain about 2,000 gallons out of the pool. Not to mention digging a trench around the pool to help the rainwater dissipate.

Looks like good weather for the upcomng week - which is great, since I’ll be on vacation

I’ve given it two cuts and it’s going to need a third to be properly done. And the blasted ants have been very busy, so there are now large patches of white ant-killing powder all over my lawn.
