raisinbread, You Dumb Bitch.

Stop it. Stop it right fucking now now.

STOP trying to post links to pics of the captured American soldiers.

The American military is pissed off that Al-Jazeera is showing these photographs, because showing them violates rules in the Geneva Convention about humiliation of POW’s. That’s why these pictures are NOT all over the American airwaves.

Just because the Iraqi military is doing doesn’t mean that you can.

Stop it now, you lame cunt. You were wanrned once by a moderator. Then you tried and end run around it. It’s still not going to work.

Fuck. In the four years I’ve been here, I don’t think I’ve ever pitted another Doper seriously. Thanks, **raisinbread, ** for pissing ME off so badly.

You stupid, stupid bitch.

Is that what he/she (I don’t know raisinbread’s gender) did?

That’s despicable.

Ok, here’s my take on this, not that anyone asked me. From what I can tell from the two locked threads, raisinbread was trying to gain support for the position that it was wrong of the opposition to present news that way, and linking so we could all see WHAT way. Euty’s first thread lock isn’t real clear to me - I also assumed exception was taken to the link itself, not to the information contained in it - thus when raisinbread started the new thread, I got the impression she thought she WAS following the rules.

Personally, I would not have clicked on the link no matter what, as I’ve seen more than enough of this myself. I’m also not a huge fan of much that raisinbread has posted elsewhere, but I don’t think this was a matter of trying to get around the rules as much as it was an attempt to follow them.

I have stopped it. And I won’t say more regarding the subject per Eutychus’s request. LifeOnWry is on the money.

I think Persephone has found her Sworn Enemy.

SkipMagic: Nah. Still working on that.

And raisinbread? Thanks.

This is now oficially a Totally Lame Pit Thread.

Do you want me to lock it off, then, or should we just let it die and sink to the bottom?

'Tis too bad for that whole Sworn Enemy loss, Persephone. It would have been pretty cool for you to start posting in green, red or yellow–anything but the “evil” purple.

Dude, I tell ya’: I try to deliver in these pit threads, and you just push my suggestions to the side. I might have to fit a couple lasers on the heads of some sharks and apply for the position of your archnemesis if you keep that attitude up, Missy!

Um, i missed the two other threads on this issue. What’s the deal?

I mean, i’m not especially interested in seeing pictures of captured American soldiers, but they showed them on the network news broadcast that i was watching a couple of hours ago (can’t remember which one - they all look the same).

What reason was given by the Mods for not wanting links to these photos?

These particular ones are probably of the dead soldiers, not the ones who are alive.

I’ve seen them. They’re nasty.

I know they are - my local NBC affiliate just showed them again.

But plenty of nasty stuff gets linked to on this Board. As long as people make it clear that their link might upset some people, i’m not sure what makes this issue so different from all the gross, unpleasant, and upsetting stuff that we deal with on this Board every week.

Lynn: Nah, don’t lock it. Euty might show up and explain in more detail as to why he locked the threads and disabled the links. But thanks for asking. I appreciate it.

I agree with mhendo.

I’m not distressed the networks didn’t show them. (Some people claim to have seen the footage but I keep hearing the networks say they won’t air it, at least for now.) I can certainly see how broadcasting such images unannounced, into everyone’s living room could indeed raise a taste problem, even for networks. BUT I’m seeing news outlets say things like “the dead soldiers appear to have been executed.”

This is an extremely serious charge, and I want to be able to judge for myself, thanks, rather than simply accept the characterization of some reporter. The taste issue doesn’t enter into it on the Internet so long as you know what you are getting into.

Now of course, the mods and admins can do whatever they think is appropriate. I just want them to realize that by supressing access to such images, they are essentially making a political rather than a legal or asthetic decision. This war is an unfortunate reality. Censoring unpleasant images spins that reality whether you want it to or not.

I don’t know whether what the Iraqis filmed will benefit those who support the war or those against it – and I don’t care, either. All I know is that they are facts that shouldn’t be suppressed.

If Persephone had started posting in green or yellow, I would have had to stop reading her posts. And that would have been a sad thing.

F_X

If Persephone had started posting in green on yellow (or yellow on green), I’d be unable to read her posts! (Colourblindness is a real bitch sometimes!)

Monty, just a question:

How did you manage to get through the military physical with colorblindness?

I don’t mean that in a bad way, merely curious.

Airman: Colourblindness isn’t a disqualifying factor for military service; however, it is disqualifying for certain MOS/Ratings/AFSC.

Oddly enough, when I was in the Army, those of us with this condition were “prime guard duty material” because we have good night vision and the camoflauge uniforms are designed to trick you guys, not us!

Can I just jump in here to add something?

Harold called for you. He wants crayon back.

STOP POSTING IN FUCKING PURPLE!!!

It is juvenile at best, abso-fucking-lutely irritating at worst and it’s gone on way, way too long. I don’t care if you actually DO live in the purplest place on earth, you’re like an obsessive-compulsive five year old with a Barney fetish.

Just stop.

Truth Seeker, I have to register some measure of disagreement … if prisoners have been executed by the Iraqis, it is a serious matter, but it is not for you to judge, it’s for a properly constituted war crimes tribunal. And, in the interim, friends and relatives of those soldiers likely do not appreciate having the bloody corpses of their loved ones displayed on the Internet …
