Anybody else planning on watching this Wednsday night? I only recently learned of the Duggar family though watching a Discovery channel special. And I saw the TLC special about them moving into their new home. The special was filmed last year, is number 17 on the way yet? The oldest son, Joshua, is 17/18 now and apparently got his G.E.D. at 16; what’s he up too? Is it just me or do the specials play down the Duggars’ religious beliefs?
Meh, family in the town my parents live in had 13 kids. Not that much different from 16 kids. Actually they told my parents that once you hit the 6th orr 7th kid it isnt that different as you add kids. Only thing is you have to add more rooms. You start cooking recipes of stuff that is large batch foods like you normally see for family reunions [pasta and sauce, 2 trays lasagne, 2 trays chicken pieces, 2 turkeys at a time …] And when a kid gets old enough to get an after school type job [baby sitting, delivering papers, mowing lawns etc] they are heartily encouraged to buy their own clothes and school supplies, and kick in money towards groceries.
I just can’t get into celebrating and celebretizing familiies who choose to have a huge number of children. So you can pop out kid after kid and you choose to do so, why are we making a TV special again?
I’m with aruqvan on this…it’s not that unusual. One of my good friends from my school days came from a family of 13 kids. Father was an OB-Gyn! Mom died a few years back, but the dad still lives in the huge old house around the block from me, with maybe one or two of the kids still living with him, or perhaps a grandchild or two. At least two or three of the sons became doctors, and all were considered good kids as far as I can remeber…not a problem child in the bunch. as for their religion, they were just basic Protestants…nothing fringe or evangelical or born-again…I think they might have been United Church of Christ. Just a normal bunch of people.
