I thought it was a good start to the season, better than the last couple of episodes. The opening with Shelly’s song was a cute way to get everyone up to speed.
During the episode when I thought Jimmy could play drunk I said to the wife, “Family Guy did it.” And I’m glad they mentioned it.
I laughed when the doctor talked about how shows’ll make up any medical issue for whatever they need for an episode…
The adults were consistent. It’s been shown that Virginia loves validation from others and Burt gets jealous very easily.
Overall, I enjoyed it, although I hated Sabrina’s hair.
Wasn’t the kid who played young Jimmy that one kid that sang the Lady Gaga song?
According to IMDB, some kid named Greyson Chance “whose April 2010 performance of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” at a sixth-grade music festival became a hit on YouTube, gaining over 36 million views.”
I watched it and will continue to watch but it seemed to me that the writers are still on vacation. The usual ‘zing’ wasn’t there for me. I hope they can get spooled back up.
Actually, I was glad to see that (and the hint that she might start having a couple days of week where she will be lucid). Chloris is too good an actress not to use her more and give her some great lines.
I see their neighborhood finally got the “internet tubes” and they have a laptop.
It was a good episode - not great - but very happy to see the show returning.
I’ve always liked that the show is not just “about the baby” and I hope they keep it that way. If the show makes it another couple seasons and they have to actually start giving Hope lines, it’ll be interesting to see how that goes…
As for this particular episode, it was OK but definitely not one of the best. It was fairly predictable and the big laughs weren’t really there. I did like the first bird-in-the-house bit (“It’s pecking! It’s pecking!!”) but then the call back with Mawmaw in the background was too over the top, even for this show.
There was an article in EW about the show and Greg Garcia said the want to age the character naturally.
The article also stated that it was a waste of Cloris Leachman to have her play crazy all the time. Garcia does want more lucid moments with MawMaw and they will also use her for a lot of flashbacks.
Jimmy finding out that “Mawmaw’s boobs itch” was worth the slow parts. The bird business was pretty funny too, especially “you’ve come for me at last.”
I missed the last few episodes of the prior season on first run, and the repeats have been building up on my Tivo, so I had a mini-marathon last night of 4 episodes including this one. So they all blend together a bit, but I’m still loving this show. Garrett Dillahunt needs to be nominated for the emmy next year. He’s hilarious. (The bit with him trying to kiss his own head a few episodes back had me rolling.) I love how the show can mix great pure physical comedy like that, with great subtle verbal jokes, like Virginia’s mispronunciations, and all the funny character stuff, like “Drakkar Noir.”
And I love that this show isn’t afraid to drop a subtle joke and never point to it, unlike most sitcoms. Burt’s “I’d rather be in Virginia” T-shirt had me in stitches when it finally clicked.
There are only two or three shows that I will not miss unless somebody needs to go to the ER, and this is one of them.
Now I have a new catchphrase: “…I bet THAT’S why she knows so much about cheese.”
I thought it was a solid episode, better than last week’s. It didn’t end how I was expecting. I thought the entire episode, based on the beginning, was going to be about Sabrina doesn’t tell people she’s rich because they’ll start to expect her to pay for everything, like the Chance’s did.
