Rand Paul apparently really likes Wikipedia

It appears that even Rand wishing he could challenge an MSNBC talking head to a duel may have been a bit of…well, if not plagiarism, at least copying:

Carl Menger’s a fool if he thinks we’re ever going to have an economy based on some kind of privately-issued currency like bitcoins or precious-metal disks. Look around the world – how many instances are there?

There are more instances of countries simply adopting other countries’ currency - Ecuador and El Salvador, for example, use the US dollar as official currency; Zimbabwe and North Korea use the Euro. If the US dollar were taken out of circulation, we’d simply change over all our business to Mexican pesos or Canadian dollars.

“I’m not going to look at your clips, but I’m pretty sure they support me.” What a shock.

If anybody wants to know how it’s possible that people can maintain completely false beliefs, even when they have easy access to resources undreamed of just 50 years ago, this is how.

Bravo! Can I just say that I really appreciate that you’re willing to take this sycophantic brownosing of the Republicans such a level in which you actually defend Somalia! Few people are willing to sink to that level, fewer still revel in it as you obviously do. I am certain that you’ll make plenty of wacky statements in the future that will keep us all in fits and giggles! :D:D:D

To be fair, going from a GNP of five bucks to ten bucks is a 100% growth rate.

That would indeed be what a libertarian would want. It’s also what we actually have. What Ron Paul wants, though, is for the nature of money to be nothing but gold, and for its quantity to be fixed at the quantity of gold. He wants to declare, by fiat, that the value of a dollar is exactly some weight of metal, rather than letting the dollar adapt to market forces the way it does now.

God help him, should she choose: “wits”.

Since we’re not in the Pit, please dial back the hostility.

Actually the quantity of money is not decided in the manner I explained. I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Also what you are describing is not a “nationalization” of gold. Congress would define the dollar as a certain amount of gold. They wouldn’t have any control over how much gold is mined. The government wouldn’t own all gold. That would be nationalization of gold. If congress defines a foot as 12 inches are they nationalizing the lumber measurement industry? If they define a bushel as a certain weight are they nationalizing the grain industry? If they define a minute as 60 seconds are they time communists? Get real, bud.

In any case Paul doesn’t advocate for a gold standard, though he admits it would be an improvement. It would take the control of the money supply out of the hands of government and into the hands of private producers. A position entirely consistent with a monarchist libertarian position.

It benefits governments to monopolize the production of money so that the can monetize debt and pay off their special interests without the political obstacles of raising taxes. That’s why there are no instances among developed countries.

I’m not gonna watch the videos and I found no evidence of Obama being taken to task personally after skimming the text cites. You most likely didn’t view or read them either because you refuse to provide proof of your claims. Either that or you view and read them and came up short of your claim. In any case it’s customary, or at least polite, to provide a short quote from your sources.

Do you dispute my claim? Perhaps you will make a counterclaim so that we can proceed instead of engaging in personal attacks that quite frankly do not phase me, bud.

I’m going to actually defend Somalia. I’d point out that the civil war is actually over now, it’s got a government and is rebuilding, and while there are still parts of the country that aren’t under government control (like Somaliland), things are settling down, the government is operating and the currency is stabilizing. I think there are a lot of outdated images of Somalia out there.

What a bunch of lame backpedaling.

Does she jump up and down and call Obama a baby-killer? No, she doesn’t. But that wasn’t what I claimed. The only “claim” I made was that the videos refute YOUR repeated claim that she worships Obama. Having extended segments critical of his policies does refute that for any objective person, and I’m not interested in chasing your rapidly receding goalposts.

If I bake bread, I can sell it at whatever price I want. Maybe I’ll price it too high, and nobody will want to buy my bread, or maybe I’ll price it too low, and won’t get as much profit from it as I could, but it’s my decision. Decisions like that are what running a business is all about. Likewise if I make watches, or automobiles, or most any other sort of product for sale. But if Paul had his way, then the sellers of gold would not be able to choose their own price. They would have a price mandated for them by the government. When the government is making my most important business decision for me, I call that a government takeover of the business.

Another example of plagiarism from Paul’s September op-ed on drug sentencing in the Washington Times.

“instead of engaging in personal attacks that quite frankly do not phase me, bud.”

That’s “faze”, in case it comes up again somewhere it matters.

I’m only skimming the thread, but it sounds like we’ve finally gotten you to hint at your example of Farnabopia ! Thanks!

Romney has endorsed the drones(*). AFAIK McCain, Bush, Cheney, et all are all gung-ho droners. What I want to know is: Why do you and all the other “Jesus==Obama” memers insist on speaking of “Obama’s” drones instead of “U.S.A.'s”?? Just answer that in a way that’s believably sincere, if you can, and I’ll be satisfied.

    • BTW, I’m more-or-less pro-drone myself. As is anyone who has any news source other than anti-Illuminati, Alabama economics, or Goldbug YouTubes. Drones simply give a better guilty-to-innocent casualty ratio than alternatives.

Here’s a little factoid they don’t mention in the anti-Illuminati  hyperinflation Youtubes:

If you made the mistake of selling 100 ounces of genuine gold in, say, 1900 at the pre-Roosevelt price of $20.67 dollars per ounce and kept the proceeds invested in crypto-fascist 10-year U.S. [del]Illuminati[/del] Treasury bonds, how many ounces of gold would you be able to buy at today’s prices from the bond proceeds?

312 ounces

Do you have a reputable cite for this? Need we first agree that “thousands” means 2000 or more? And that Obama, even though he may be the precocious Emperor Jesus, isn’t responsible for drones before 2009?

Didn’t think so.

As I’ve posted elsewhere, Rachel Maddow should totally take him up on his challenge, opting for paintball guns. This keeps the whole mishigas churning. If he wins, it simply reminds people of why he was dueling in the first place. If he loses, he loses to an east-coast gun-control advocate lesbian.

And it also reminds people why he was dueling in the first place.
